Andrew Breitbart has been at the forefront of the controversy over the supposed “N-” words hurled at the Black Congressional Caucus as the walked through the DC Tea Party crowd on March 20. After unearthing another video that shows no evidence of any racial epithets, and noting that nobody has stepped forward to claim the $100K prize for proof that it really happened, he concludes that the entire incident was made up. He closes his post with these words:
“Are you calling a civil rights legend a liar?”Unfortunately, I am. And the mainstream media are as complicit in this lie as Congressman Lewis.
And here’s where I depart from Breitbart’s take. I have no doubt that Congressman Lewis heard the “N-” word. I think he hears it where ever he goes. I suspect he’s heard it on most of the days of his life.
I just doubt that it was spoken.
