“Obama denies”

[Now updated with more denials!!]

I was struck by the number of times I’ve read “Obama denies this” and “Obama denies that.” Poor guy – he must be the most misunderstood man in America, forced to constantly deny peoples’ interpretations of his statements and actions. Here are some examples, all from this year:

  • Obama Denies Shifting to Reach Political Center (7/8/08)
  • Obama Denies Shift on Iraq Position (7/3/08)
  • Obama Denies Rebuking Clark (7/1/08)
  • Obama Denies Charge he Peddles ‘White Guilt’ (6/26/08)
  • Obama Denies E-mail Relationship with Scarlett Johansson (6/25/08)
  • Obama Denies Filling Out Questionnaire That Bears His Handwriting (6/17/08)
  • Obama Denies ‘Whitey’ Rumor (6/13/08)
  • Obama Denies ‘Silence’ On Gay Issues (4/10/08)
  • Obama Denies Pledge to Teamsters to End Federal Oversight (5/5/08)
  • Obama Denies Assuring Canada on NAFTA (3/3/08)
  • Obama Denies Stock Conflict (3/8/08)
  • Obama Denies Plagiarism (2/18/08)
  • Barack Obama Denies Snubbing Hillary Clinton (1/29/08)

And they claimed George Bush was in a state of denial.

    Well, Bush is “The Decider”.

    Obama is “The Denier”.

    Makes sense to me.

  2. sherlock Says:

Obama: I just don’t have time in my schedule to debate my American opponent in an American election in front of American voters, except once… on July 4th weekend when Americans are busy celebrating something or other.

Whoaa: fly to Germany and make speeches to European voters as if I was already a President? I’m there !!

Heh, I just linked this at Conservative Grapevine, so expect a bit of a traffic bump.

  5. geoff Says:

Thanks, dpud. DinTX was kind enough to link me from AoSHQ as well, so today my traffic makes this place look like a real blog.

  6. Wizard Prang Says:

Given the number of blatantly false e-mail rumors about him I have received over the last few months, I can hardly blame him.

  7. JimPanzee Says:

McCain denies 10,000 year war. McCain denies he doesn’t know how to work a computer. McCain denies he’s running for Bush’s third term. McCain denies his campaign crew is filled with lobbyists.

This is a lose-lose argument to be frank. If Obama is denying a lot of stuff it’s because he’s being attacked a lot which means the press is in the bag for McCain. That’s hardly the argument you want to be making.

The question is whether or not Obama is right to deny the charges leveled against him–not whether he denies them or not.

  8. elmooarno Says:

Are you still beating your wife?

Or are you going to deny it?

    See how it works?

  9. JimPanzee Says:

    I might add:

McCain denies aides’ statements about lobbyists
    McCain denies Grabbing Sandinista
McCain denies calling his wife a c***
McCain denies senator’s account of 1987 meeting
McCain denies his record of supporting Social Security.

All of which are available from a “McCain denies” Google search.

  10. lonetruth Says:

This is no surprise. As a black man trying to make it in this still-racist society, I’ve had to deny a lot of things. Just not on camera. I’ve had to deny ever spending jail time, ever doing drugs (even marijuana), ever bitch-slapping an ex-girlfriend, lying to my wife, having an affair, stealing office supplies, denigrating inner-city black women, drinking a 40-ounce while spouting random obscenities, or even using Affirmative Action to screw some white guy out of a job.

I’ve had to NON-VERBALLY deny, deny, deny all these things because apparently if I wait and expect people to have some FAITH, use OBSERVATION and GOOD JUDGEMENT to determine what kind of person I really am, I’ll be ROYALLY screwed.

So is it no surprise that Obama, who is running for President of the USA, is being forced to be on the defensive so much? Welcome to the life of an Intelligent Upstanding Black Man. “It ain’t no picnic”.

  11. geoff Says:

You guys are very funny. Do you ever think about what you write, or does it just come pouring out? Try re-reading your comments with a more critical eye, but prepare yourself for embarrassment.

  12. doubleplusundead Says:

Heh, you’re definitely on target, look at the angry Barackolytes coming out to defend Our Lord and Savior.

  13. Robert Says:

You forgot to add Obama’s shifting position (a day apart) in regards to Jerusalem and Israel. :) That happened a couple of months ago.

  14. Muslihoon Says:

I’m not white. And to date I have never experienced racism or discrimination of any sort, and I have always lived in predominantly white areas. (Exception may be how Hispanics treat me versus how they treat other Hispanics, but that’s another issue all together.)

But then my parents raised me right, to follow the law and do what is right. So I don’t need to deny anything because I don’t do anything wrong. Society is right and just for penalizing wrong-doers.

And this denial by The Antichrist doesn’t have to do with people bringing up false assertions. The assertions are true: like a politician from 1984, he denies their truthfulness or reality.

As much as I am uncomfortable with McCain, he has tons more integrity than the Obamessiah. With Obama, we won’t know what he thinks until he says it, and that very well may change the next minute. For some reason, he’s not being held accountable as other politicians are (witness the furor over Romney’s comparatively tame changes of mind).

However, CNN reported yesterday that a strong Obama supporter and campaigner in the media said that Obama’s constant change of policy and opinion is beginning to seriously hurt Obama’s campaign.

  15. Muslihoon Says:

Sorry, Geoff. Forgot to close the tag after “1984″.

Great post, by the way. I’m tempted to spread it.

  16. geoff Says:

    Gotcha covered, M.

  17. geoff Says:

So Musli, you’re saying that you’ve never learned the art of NON-VERBAL denial?

Though to be fair, perhaps lonetruth is being harassed by the Amazing Kreskin. Or maybe he’s a mime.

  18. Muslihoon Says:

    Thank you!

  19. Lincoln Says:

    That’s better. =)

  20. Lincoln Says:

  24. nicedeb Says:

Awesome work, Geoff. You’ve got the Obamaniacs hyperventilating.

  25. morningcupofcoffee Says:

You have a portion of a point, but it’s watered down by the inclusion of examples such as the Scarlett Johansson denial. That was obviously a case of the media trying to create some a storyline.

Though as an Obama supporter the ones I’m concerned with are his extending of Bush’s faith-based initiatives and his movement on the Iraq War. But, historically, candidates tend to run to the middle in the general election so this is to be expected.

I do applaud your info gathering.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  26. rago Says:

It doesn’t really matter what Obama denies. Even watching the press that adores him, and thinks they’re convincing middle America of his greatness, he comes across as a socialist.

There is no right side of middle America. There is no left side of middle America. There is middle America, traditional folks. I would venture to say most have what would be considered conservative values. I prefer to call them traditional values.

Then there is the right and also the left. There is the far right and also the far left. The left and right are in the pocket for their guy. (generalizing of course) Nothing will change that.

Middle America elects the president. Socialism is not a traditional value.

    McCain in a landslide.

  28. Mrs Peel Says:

    I call Moby!

  29. daveintexas Says:

    I second that.

  30. rago Says:

    Mrs. Peel or daveintexas,

I am too new and/or out of the loop. Please explain “I call Moby!”

    Thanks

  31. geoff Says:

A Moby is a liberal pretending to be a rabid conservative just to make trouble and discredit conservative sites.

Needless to say, though I have criticisms of both the Clintons and Obama, I don’t agree with much that Jean said nor the way that she said it.

  32. Mrs. Peel Says:

rago, sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier. geoff is correct – I was implying that Jean is a liberal pretending to be a “wingnut,” because liberals are convinced that conservatives really do make such idiotic and hateful statements.

I agree with your McCain in a landslide prediction, incidentally. Obama is so far left he makes Mondale look like Goldwater. The only thing that gives me pause is the fact that the media is completely in the tank for Obama, and many people don’t get their news from anywhere else and don’t realize that they’re being lied to (by omission if not by commission). That will be a difficult obstacle to overcome, especially if McCain doesn’t get his act together and start campaigning better.

  33. Mark in NJ Says:

I didn’t know what a Moby was either, so thanks for the lesson.

I just assumed JEAN was Ann Coulter.

  34. geoff Says:

    From the Urban Dictionary:

The term is derived from the name of the liberal musician Moby, who famously suggested in February of 2004 that left-wing activists engage in this type of subterfuge: “For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you’re an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion. Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, ‘What’s all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?’”

The strategy has been frequently attempted on conservative blogs, but has not been nearly as effective as Moby envisioned, since false rumors are easily debunked by fact-checking minions, and cartoonishly extreme commenters often get immediately identified as mobys and banned.

  35. Muslihoon Says:

Ah, thanks for the explanation. I was lost too.

But then I’m notorious for being clueless, so I didn’t think much of it.
