Do we really need border security – even if it works?

I’m pretty adamant about the need to solve the illegal immigration problem in a way that encourages, if not enforces, repatriation of current immigrants. Obviously any solution should also discourage future unsanctioned immigration, but even so, I think that approaching the problem from the border enforcement angle is difficult, dangerous, and expensive. So I view these happy results from Texas with mixed feelings:
