| Why is this woman smiling? |
Her parting quote is very telling:
Good-bye America …you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless you want it.
This is exactly my point with regards to the patriotism of many liberals: they are patriotic to their own idea of what America should be, not to what it is. So when she defends her patriotism, she’s defending her personal conception of America, not America.
To a conservative, that’s not patriotism. That’s narcissism.

I think your post is quite different – you focused on the despicable abuse of her son’s name, while I was looking more at the generic patriotism angle.
But where Sheehan’s concerned, there’s plenty of material to go around.

with her own words, I don’t know if you remember me telling this story at aces,
I live with my mom about 9 months out of 12, a little more in recent times (I don’t need space, and she generaly likes my company) anyways.
When sheehan started to take the spotlight, I turned to my mother and I said “if you EVER thought of talking like that while I or my brother were in I would hate you, you know that?”
To which my mother responded,
“that woman is a C@#t!!”
I have a good mom.

America has problems. She doesn’t always do what I want. She has the attention span of a puppy and lavishes attention on trashy people and flashy things.
I love her anyway.

America is like a giant wickedpinto on a bender. . . .
Sometimes even I don’t like America,
But I love America.
